I shared this yummy granola bar recipe that my friend Diane created to my Instagram stories the other day. (She’s amazing in the kitchen!) I have made these before but instead of the heath bits, I added chocolate chips. That’s what I love about making your own bars from home, you can experience with different ingredients and see what you like best! I used to buy granola bars all the time. But once I really looked into the ingredients and all the crap they add to them, I started to make my own and never got store bought again!
I started using applesauce instead of oil and I don’t think i’ll ever go back. It’s such an amazing substitute and wayyy lower in calories! I don’t even miss the added sugar because the chocolate chips, raisins and bananas are the perfect amount to give each bar just the right amount of sweetness.
I also added raisins in this batch where as last time, I did cranberries. Both are so good! Here are the exact ingredients I used but once again, feel free to add/takeaway whatever you like to make it your own.
Healthy No Flour, No Sugar Granola Bars
5 cups of rolled oats
2 cups of mashed bananas
1/2 cup of melted coconut oil or applesauce (I used 1 cup of applesauce)
2 tsp of real vanilla
1 1/2 tsp of each: cinnamon, ground ginger, cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup of raisins, cranberries, chocolate chips (combine whatever add ins you like)
Mix all the spices and salt together well
Combine all ingredients and spice mixture in large bowl and mix. I use a clean glove and really get in there and mix the mixture . If you feel like it’s to dry, add a little bit of your preferred milk.
Press into a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Press until its as even as possible and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes.
Let cool and cut into squares. These bars freeze so well! I grab one from the freezer each morning and they are perfectly thawed by the time I need a snack mid morning – afternoon.
